Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao has responded to criticism from movie critic Tolu Fagbure, who questioned her acting ability and place in the Nigerian film industry.
Fagbure made the comments during an interview on Agbaletu while discussing Ajao’s career and her performances in Nollywood.
The movie critic claimed that Ajao’s acting did not meet the standard he expected from an actress working in cinema. He also questioned whether her performances could be regarded as proper acting.
According to Fagbure, Ajao’s physical appearance was one of the things working in her favour, but he did not believe she had developed the talent needed to become a skilled actress.
He described her acting delivery as “plastic” and said her “fine face” was what he considered admirable about her career. Fagbure also stated that he did not believe Ajao had the talent required for acting.
When the interviewer asked whether his assessment was too harsh, Fagbure stood by his comments but clarified that they represented only his personal view.

He said, “That’s my opinion. My opinion is not sacrosanct; my opinion is not the end.”
Ajao later reacted to the criticism in a post on X, appearing to question the idea that her appearance was the only thing sustaining her career after years in Nollywood.
She wrote, “Ahhh, so my fine face is the only thing carrying me? After all these years?”

The actress said she would not allow the criticism to distract her from her work, adding that she would continue to focus on improving her craft and building her career.
She said, “I will just keep doing what I know how to do: work, grow and let the audience decide. After all, opinions are free, but careers are built.”
Ajao also made it clear that the criticism would not make her stop acting or pursuing opportunities in the movie industry.
She added, “Cinema or no cinema, I’m not stopping anytime soon. Ire oo.”
The actress has continued to feature in Nollywood productions while building her career across different areas of the entertainment industry.
